Bright Rooms
Actually, bright rooms are an asset, says our designer. They are much more cheerful especially for the children in the family, if there are any. But of course this is all a matter of individual taste. If you feel that you’d like a more subdued atmosphere you can play around with darker shades of green, for instances, but start off with basic colors, like sand or beige for the floor and walls. You wouldn’t have any difficulty matching other color schemes with it later on. Our designer suggests easy cleaning ceramic floor tiles of 22 x 26 cm size for the living room. Space conscious HDB dwellers should opt for compact wall units and there are many designers for such flats on the market. The feature wall on the opposite side can be a cool apple green with rather low neat sofas and chairs in a darker leaf green, perhaps. A bar in ram in wood with white counter top can be placed at the end of the living room before it curves into the dining area.
This is particular five room flat has the pleasant advantage of having the dining room overlooking a balcony at one end. The balcony wooden door provided by HDB is knocked down and in its place is a glass tinted sliding door. Our designer has included a cane dining set with glass top and a decorative side table with mirror as furniture arrangement.
Reality is a beautifully appointed home now, made rich by well selected finishing touches and very correct arrangements. Nothing appears too much or out of place, a fact that does not surprise any one who drops in for a chat –this is, after all, a home planned and built by an artist and as one who knows exactly what to dab on his canvas and where he would make no mistake in the house that he must have fashioned in his mind a long time ago.
